[Letters from a father to his sons.] 1856.

These letters were written by E.B. Jones, who was a conductor on the Joliet Division of the Michigan Central Rail Road Company, to two of his sons, George and Emanuel, who had been entrusted to the care of the Shakers. The community is not named. In one letter he writes: "I am very thankful that yourself and 2 brothers are contented and happy that you are beloved by all the brothers and sisters. ... Be obedient to your caretakers, cheerful to your teacher, and my dear boy you will be beloved by the Society.
